 About the Conference

Han character is not only an important part of Chinese culture, but also a unique linguistic symbol widely adopted by a number of Asian countries, including Korea, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan et al. Since research and education on Han character has become a significant global issue, Centre for Advancement of Chinese Language Education and Research (CACLER) at the University of Hong Kong, the Korea Society of Education in Chinese Characters and Classics, Society for Korean Classical Chinese Education and Ethnic Chinese Classic Texts and Characters Research Centre at Beijing Normal University have co-hosted the first, second and third International Conferences on this theme in Hong Kong, South Korea and Beijing respectively. Building upon accomplishments and successes in the first three conferences, the fourth one will be held at the University of Hong Kong in mid-August 2013.

This Conference aims to bring together scholars, researchers and practitioners from different countries to discuss and share their ideas, perspectives, experiences and findings of Han characters education and research. Submission of abstract (paper/poster) is invited which should embrace the conference theme and main areas as follows:

(1) Han (Chinese) character education: including theoretical framework, teaching and learning materials, pedagogical strategies, information technology in Chinese character education; classical Chinese or literary Chinese and so on.
(2) Researches on Han (Chinese) character: including history of Chinese character, philology of Chinese character, theoretical framework, annotation, study of Chinese character etc.
